Minuit Machine Unveils Their Latest Music Video For New DRGS

Amandine Stioui and Hélène  de Thoury are back as Minuit Machine, and are as dark and emotional as ever. DRGS, the first single off their upcoming album ”Infrarogue” out May 13th on de Thoury’s label Synth Religion is everything I could have hoped for, and it’s plain that the duo work as brilliantly together as ever as a three year hiatus.

Rarely does my heart break anymore, but Amandine’s beautifully husky delivery rocked me in a way previous Minuit Machine never has. She channels such intense feelings of hopelessness and overwhelmed ambivalence over lines of Helene’s atmospheric synths. The video was shot at La Machine du Moulin Rouge during the Cocotte Club with an iPhone X , provides a striking counterpoint to Amandine’s introspective lyrics. Featured in the video are label mates Matthieu Roche of Fragrance and Benjamin Coyault of Marble Slave, and I can only imagine it is their voices you hear faintly on the refrain “Drugs” throughout the video.

Between the cuts between color and black and white, crowd and isolation, forgetting and terrifying nuclear reality, Amandine, who also scripted the video, drives home that while these feelings of anger and denial over the current state of the world, it is still possible to forget those fears and live for the moment. After a single like this, I am more excited than ever to see what the rest of “Infrarogue” has in store for us.

LYRICS:

We’re just killing time
We’re the last ones to survive
In this life we borrowed
We are forced to break the laws

If we can’t fit in this world
We are doomed to stay alone
DRUGS
So I need something to fill me up
I need something to kill the rage
DRUGS

The world is ending but I don’t care
We’re all dying but I don’t care
DRUGS
X2

Suddenly this angst inside me
Suddenly these fears inside me
Gone
DRUGS
X2

We’re just killing time
We’re the last ones to survive
In this life we borrowed
We are forced to break the laws

If we can’t fit in this world
We are doomed to stay alone
So I need something to fill me up
I need something to kill the rage

Suddenly this angst inside me
Suddenly these fears inside me
Gone
DRUGS
X2

The world is ending but I don’t care
We’re all dying but I don’t care
DRUGS
X2
